Understanding the Meridian Explorer architecture

Understanding the Meridian Explorer architecture is critical to effectively configuring and administering Meridian Explorer. The Meridian Explorer system consists of several interrelated components:

• A Meridian Enterprise server with the Meridian Explorer vault synchronization tool installed
• A database server running either the Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle database management system
• A web server running Microsoft Internet Information Services
• Meridian Explorer client computers

The relationships of these components to one another are illustrated in the following figure.

The basic flow of data to the Meridian Explorer client computers is as follows.

• The Meridian Explorer vault synchronization tool is typically run as a scheduled task on either the Meridian Enterprise server or a separate computer. It exports selected vault documents and metadata to the Meridian Explorerrepository stored on a database server.
• The Meridian Explorer clients request data from the web server running the Meridian Explorer web application that retrieves its data from the database server.
